This collection consists of the personal correspondence, political comments, and real estate transactions and the will of Archibald Stuart. There is also extensive correspondence of Alexander H.H. Stuart discussing the Virginia political scene, internal improvements, and colonization of free blacks, as well as his papers on the cabinet. There are legal records, A.H.H. Stuart's will, estate papers, receipts, and accounts with Bath ironworks, Staunton Chancery Court, and between Virginia and West Vir. Ginia. Prominent correspondents include John Marshall, James Monroe, Millard Fillmore, J.E.B. Stuart, Woodrow Wilson, and Daniel Webster. There are also Civil War Quartermaster supply receipts.
